Bikini Day

The skin revealing two-piece women’s swimsuit has been making splashes in history since 1913, so calling all bikini lovers, this blog is for you! Thank goodness Louis Réard unveiled the world’s smallest bathing suit on July 5, 1947. Otherwise we might still be wearing those irritating puffed-sleeve knee-length wool dresses worn by women on beaches in the early 1900s. Though Jacques Heim’s suit design was first to hit the beach, Louis Réard provided the bikini with its unforgettable name, inspired by Bikini Atoll. Like the Pacific atomic bomb test, Réard’s idea was proficient in manipulating teenie weenie bits of matter into an explosion. However, it was predicted all 30 inches of cloth fabric would create a cultural explosion greater than the nuclear explosion in Bikini Atoll.

Despite others reservations, the scandalous form-fitted string bikini style with a G-string back proved a hit after it debuted on a showgirl at a popular pool in the center of Paris. Réard’s daring design revolutionized swimwear, establishing the itsy bitsy bikini style for women of all ages, shapes, sizes, and nationalities to enjoy around the world. The anniversary of the bikini swimsuit is celebrated each year on July 5th. Known as Bikini Day, the goal of the holiday is to spend the entire day in your bikini in honor of Réard’s style brilliance, so plan accordingly!
